Arrival in Roma 5/16/2011

Hello from Roma!

We arrived in Rome, Italy today, safely! I slept off and on throughout the flight. It was loud. We first flew from Columbus, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia to catch our connecting flight to Rome. When we arrived in Atlanta my right ear would not pop. Once we were in the air again, my ear was fine. Then it began really giving me trouble as we declining in the sky, once we were about 45 minutes out of Rome. It is a lot better now though. It's still needs attention but the pressure build up is not that bad anymore. When we arrived in Rome, all of our bags were accounted for! Yay us! We had to walk from one end of the airport to the other, similar to Atlanta, but not as large of an airport to claim our bags and meet up with our tour guide and bus driver. The tour guide is very nice, but she has a very heavy Italin accent, which makes it hard for me to hear her and understand her, ironic right? We took a bus tour around Rome and then we were dropped off for a bit of a walking tour as well. I Probably have a couple hundred pictures already! After we got a bite to eat for lunch, I had pizza, as most of us did.

(Yummy cheese and italin sausague and mushroom, under 2 Euros)!

Following lunch we met back up with our bus driver, Alberto, and we were dropped off a few blocks from our hotel, Hotel Pomezia. That was very painful for me with my back. Professor Nancy Recchie was really nice though and stayed behind and took my extra bag, (I orignally had them all attached to the big one and just the camera on my back) but they kept falling over, wheeling them on the pebble stone. (I should take a picture of those streets!)
Once we arrived at the hotel, two of our guys from Ohio Dominican were so kind into carrying my heavier bags up to my third floor hotel room. I am so very grateful, because I could barely make it up the stars. My back is very aggravated at me and it hates stairs and not to mention the stair cases are really narrow.
SO NEEDLESS TO SAY ITS JUST GOING TO BE A LOT OF WORK OUTS THIS WEEK. It's really hilly in Rome, one minute its really flat land and you think you're home free and then the next its crazy, either really steep uphill and then after the long hike up you have to go down steep as well. Tomorrow we will be going to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Borghese Gardens, Piazza dei Popolo and Via del Corso.
